| The Cup is going to visit a TRUE hockey town! From the Strib...Stanley Cup has a date with Roseau By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune

For the first time, the Stanley Cup is coming to Roseau, Minn.
Dustin Byfuglien, a (now former) member of the NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks, gets his turn with the traveling trophy and will bring it to the top of the state on Aug. 15, the league said.
Byfuglien grew up in hockey-crazed Roseau, and his mother still lives in the area. Details of festivities for the Cup's visit have yet to be finalized.
Neal Broten is the only other Roseau native to win the Cup, but he didn't bring it back after his New Jersey Devils won the NHL title in 1995.
Every off-season, players and other personnel of the Stanley Cup champions each get a day with hockey's Holy Grail and are free to do just about anything they want with the silver chalice.
The Cup's worldwide experiences have included not only the traditional small-town parades, but it also has been helicoptered to a mountaintop, used/abused as an ice cream bowl and a baby carrier, and submerged in Mario Lemieux's swimming pool.
Bufuglien played a crucial role in Chicago's title run, culminating in the championship last month, only to be traded two weeks later to the Atlanta Thrashers. | |
