| I don't mean to kick a dead horse here, but it's hard not to think about the "what if's" in the world at times. So, now that the season is a little over half done... what do you think of this season without Gabby? Should we have given him all that money to keep him, or are we better off without him?
Now when answering, don't just leave it as cut n dry as looking just at Gabby and his production. Look at the whole picture here... the cap (would we have been able to bring in "Taco in a skirt?" (GL), Zanon (who did bail us out when Burns first went down,) etc.
My take...
I think overall we are better off without him on the team. Sure we lost some one who puts butts in the seats, is exciting to watch, etc. But I think what he brings to the table is just that... excitement, but not always wins.
Right now he's a plus 7 in NY on a team that's not far ahead of the Wild in points... so in terms of standings and stats, I think it's almost a total wash.
So overall, I'd say this was still the right move for the Wild.

| My take is that it's fooking hilarious how he ended up on another one-man team. He wasn't too thrilled about having to carry the entire load here during the earlier years. Things aren't that different over there. | |

| I think we could have made all the same moves had we not shot the wad on Backs, gave Gabby his due... and we'd be much better off in the process.
The Wild made the choice to keep Backs over Gabby... and in this league you should always err on the side of scoring. It's a more challenging thing to find IMO.

I know we've danced with this subject before (goalie vs scoring.) But just for the sake of having it on this board, I'll add it here as well. I'd much rather blow my wad on a goalie who can save a game rather then a forward that COULD get you 1-2 goals a game (be it by scoring himself or assists.) I say that with the idea of how many great players you need on a team to cover up having an average (or even a slightly better then average) NHL goalie. I understand 50 goal scorers don't grow on trees, but then neither do goalies that can carry you to a final (not saying Backs is that guy... but the odds of us making a final on his back rather then Gabby's is soooooo much greater.)

| Its a hard question to answer, had we signed him he would have scored more goals we might be higher in the standings now, but there is also the chance he would have been lazy and had issues with the coach who wold have benched him and he could be a little whiny ass who then didn't play to his potential.
We're not better w/out him, because you can't replace a sniper easily but overall i'm happier because we don't have to rely on gabby anymore, Havlat recently and Lats are emerging as guys to rely on, and of course the always reliable Koivu, we have some nice pieces for the future.

| I agree with Zamboni, Ovechkin will never have his name on the cup unless the get a consistent goaltender.
You don't replace a Gaborik, like him or not his accuracy is lethal and add the quickness element and he is way up there. I don't think he would have had a problem with TR, if you watch him he is working pretty hard for NY. He never worked that hard here, hell I even seen him back check a few times this year. TR wouldn't have a problem because he doesn't say much to Havlat.

Can't believe you guys are going to let him get away with that comment. Just because Todd Bertuzzi said it, doesn't make it true. Besides, look at where Bertuzzi is from...Canada, the taint of North America.

I kid i kid what people compare is the climate and the land scape and the persecution of natives.
